Is using Snapchat/Instagram a good use of my cognitive surplus?

(is it a good use of your free time basically)


The reason to back up the fact that it can be a good use of our cognitive surplus can be because of all the updated news we can get instantly without having to wait and maybe watch/see it live. Also if there is some sort of an earthquake or a danger ahead it can help others by sharing and making everyone aware of what's happening which can actually be faster than the news and any announcement they may make officially.




For instance, if you wanted to know what your friend is doing, you could just easily go on Snapchat and find out what they are doing. Now, there is a system where you can even find out where they are in what location straight away. Therefore, if you needed to find out where they are, you can do that almost instantly without even having to ask your friend.




On Instagram, there is something called live, where you can literally go on live and stream live to your followers (or if you are not on private then to anyone). On live you can comment and send out hearts on live and almost communicate through live. Live can have many good aspects such as: you may be able to know what's happening in your area, live; if you wanted to know the weather or the condition or if you just simply want to know what they are doing.
